Can I get a refund if I cancel my annual plan early?
⚡ Quick Answer: No. Annual plans are paid 12 months in advance in return for a discount of 2 months free. Once your service has started, the payment is non-refundable and we don't pro-rata unused months. You can cancel at any time — your service simply continues until the end of the year you've paid for, and you won't be charged again.
Why annual plans aren't refundable
An annual plan is a trade: you commit to a full year up front, and in return you pay for 10 months and get 12 (2 months free). For the Virtual Office London plan that's £249.99/year instead of 12 × £24.99 on monthly billing.
Because the discount is the reward for the 12-month commitment, we can't refund part of the year if you cancel early. If we did, the annual plan would just be a cheaper monthly plan.
This is set out in our Terms and Conditions, clause 10.2:
Charges are payable in advance and, except where required by law, are non-refundable. No refunds or credits are given for partial periods, downgrades, cancellations or early termination once the Services have started.
What happens when you cancel an annual plan mid-year
Can I cancel? | Yes, at any time, in the customer portal — there is no notice period |
When does service stop? | At the end of the 12 months you've already paid for |
Will I be charged again? | No — cancelling switches off the renewal |
Refund for the unused months? | No — the payment covers the full year and is non-refundable |
Can I keep using the address until the year ends? | Yes — your address, mail scanning and add-ons all continue until the renewal date |
💡 Tip: Cancelling early costs you nothing extra, but gains you nothing either. If you might need the address again before the year is up, there's no reason to cancel early — just cancel before the renewal date.
Switching from annual to monthly
You can change your billing frequency in the portal under Settings → Billing → Manage, but the change takes effect at your next renewal date, not immediately. The current annual period runs to its end and isn't partially refunded. See Can I change my subscription from monthly to annual?
When a refund may apply
The non-refund rule has a small number of exceptions:
- Billing errors — if you've been charged twice, or charged after cancelling before the renewal date, email help@hoxtonmix.com with your company name and we'll put it right.
- Where the law requires it — our Terms preserve any refund rights that apply by law.
A refund does not apply when:
- You cancel part-way through a monthly or annual period (no pro-rata refunds on either plan)
- You downgrade or remove an add-on mid-period
- Your company is dissolved or struck off — the service ends automatically and any remaining service time passes to the Crown under the bona vacantia rules, so it can't be refunded. See How do I reactivate my subscription?
- You didn't use the mail service during the period — the plan provides the address and capacity, whether or not mail arrives
Where a refund is due, it's returned to the original payment method. Timing depends on your bank.
Not sure you'll need a full year?
Choose monthly billing instead. It costs more per month (£24.99/month for Virtual Office London, + VAT) but you can cancel before any monthly renewal with no further commitment. You can switch to annual later once you know the address is here to stay.
Tide and other partner-managed accounts
If you signed up through Tide, Tide handles your billing, cancellation and any refund queries directly. Hoxton Mix can't see or refund Tide payments. Contact Tide at hello@tide.co or via their in-app support.
Common Questions
I only used the address for 3 months — can I get the other 9 back?
No. The annual price is a discounted rate for a 12-month commitment. Your address and mail service stay active for the remaining 9 months; you just won't be charged at renewal.
I forgot to cancel and my annual plan renewed — can I get a refund?
Contact help@hoxtonmix.com straight away with your company name. Renewals are covered by the same terms, so we'd encourage cancelling before the renewal date, but please get in touch and we'll review it with you.
Can I transfer the remaining months to another company?
No. Subscriptions are per company and can't be transferred or credited to a different account.
I'm closing my company — do I get a refund?
No. If the company is dissolved, the service ends when it's struck off and any unused time can't be refunded. Keep the address active until the dissolution is complete so Companies House and HMRC mail still reaches you.
Is the 2 months free applied automatically?
Yes. The annual price already includes it — £249.99/year for Virtual Office London instead of 12 × £24.99.
Does cancelling stop my service straight away?
No. Service continues until the end of the period you've paid for. Cancelling only stops the next renewal.
