Postcode Address File (PAF) and Address Limitations

The Royal Mail Postcode Address File (PAF) limits the number of deliverable addresses per postcode to 100. Royal Mail assigns a new postcode when this limit is exceeded by changing the end digit to accommodate additional addresses.

You can use the postcode EC2A 4NE for all correspondence. This will not affect your ability to receive mail, as all posts will still be delivered using EC2A 4NE. However, you may encounter this limit if you want to use the Royal Mail postcode lookup service, where your company name is associated with an address lookup. The lookup service allows you to type in the company name to find the postcode, but it only lists up to 100 addresses per postcode. When this limit is reached, a new postcode is generated with a slightly different end digit. Even with the new postcode, you will still receive all your mail without any issues. The difference is purely for the lookup service and does not impact mail delivery.

If you wish to file a complaint with Royal Mail regarding this limitation, you can use the following methods:

Email: Send your complaint to Royal Mail’s customer service at customer.service@royalmail.com. In your email, you can include any relevant screenshots or documents to support your case.

Complaint Webform: Alternatively, you can use Royal Mail’s online complaint form available on their personal customer support page.

For additional support, you can also contact their customer service by phone at 03457 740 740.
